It was at the time as a census of the world should be taken according to the emperor´s directive. It was the very first census while Cyrenius was governor in Syria and everyone had to go to their own town. Joseph went from Nazaret in Galilee to the Jewish land into the city of David, named Bethlehem. He was from the house and lineage of David. So he went together with Mary who was pregnant and pledged to be married to him. As they arrived, the time came for the baby to be born. Mary gave birth to her first son. She wrapped him in swaddling clothes and put him in the manger, as there was no other accomodation available for them. And there were shepherds with their flock in the fields during that night as the angel of the Lord came to them. The clarity of the Lord shone around them; and the shepherds have been terrified. The angel said to them: Do not be afriad; for behold, I have good news and great joy to announce for all mankind; because in the city of David the Savior for all of you is born today, which is Christ, the Lord. And this shall be a sign for you: The child will be found wrapped in swaddling clothes lying in a manger. And at once the heavenly hosts joined the angels. They praised God and exclaimed: Glory to God in the highest and peace on earth and a pleasure for mankind! And as the angels went up to heaven again. the shepherds were saying: Let us now go towards Bethlehem in order to see the story announced by the Lord. They arrived in a hurry and found Mary and Joseph with the child in the manger. And as they had seen it, they spread the word of the child. And everyone who heard about it from the shepherds were surprised of the news coming from the shepherds. But Maria kept all those words movingly in her heart. The shepherds returned, praised and worshipped the Lord for everything they have heard and seen as they were told by the angel.
