Die Weihnachtskrippensammlung in Nieder Seifersdorf
So it happened, that Joseph went from the the city Nazareth in Galilee to Judea to the city of David, to Bethlehem; because he was from the house and the lineage of David. He wanted to be registered together with Mary, his fiancée, who was expecting a child. After arrival, Mary gave birth to a son, the firstborn. She wrapped him in swaddling clothes and put him in the manger, because the inn had no space for her. – That is how the life of Jesus starts in the Gospel of Luke. It is the basis of the central theme for Christmas crips; the birth of Jesus and the adoration by the three wise men.
In former times Christmas cribs were common everywhere as a symbol of Christmas. But Christmas cribs have been driven back by the emergence of the Christmas tree. Later, Christmas pyramids developed form the Christmas cribs. There are many different forms of cribs, i.e. stall cribs, cave cribs, temple crips and landscape cribs. Well-known are Christmas cribs i.e. from South Tyrol.
